Meet Dempsey’s Snowman

Like a voice from the past, the old Riley Everhart Home Place on Center Church Road in the Welcome, NC Community has long been a landmark in Davidson County, NC. Built in 1885 with brick manufactured on the site the beautiful old home literally grew out of the land it dominates.

Back in 1885, when Riley and Molly Everhart bought the land from Lewis Berrier and then proceeded to build their two-story brick home, they weren’t thinking of landmarks. They were thinking of a secure home where they could raise their growing family. Just a year later their security was rocked when the great Charleston Earthquake of 1886 reached all the way into North Carolina and cracked one of the walls upstairs in the new home. The crack is still there. It has never been repaired.

“Dragonlily”

Dempsey Essick has painted, as only he can, a lovely portrait of a dragonfly resting on a water lily. The pleasure for the viewer is having unlimited time to study the unusual flyer and to appreciate the delicate coloration and gossamer wings of the streamlined body. The painting is so realistic a viewer would not be surprised if the swift flyer suddenly levitated and zipped off in a blur of speed.

Dempsey’s painting of flowers is unmatched. The delicate graduations of color of the waterlily are so real that you might wonder if an unseen rainbow trout lurks just beneath the surface.

You will have to look closely to find the hidden shape of a hummingbird in the center of the yellow stamens

Our ‘Dragonlily’ Thumbnail is a fine art giclee printed on 100% rag fine art paper much like Dempsey uses for his originals. The prints come framed, with easel and gift boxed. The edition of signed and numbered prints is 300 and the finished framed size is 4 ¾ x 5.
